On June 11th, Continental AG and Leia Inc., announced their intent to partner on a 3D light field display for usage in automotive HUDs. The product is planned for mass production in 2022. Such technology will allow drivers and passengers to see information in 3D from an in-vehicle display, without glasses or head tracking.
Lightfield displays may become a useful technology to drivers, improving situational awareness. With depth cues, drivers can better visualize their surroundings, while reducing cognitive load.
